- Quick and easy to get into the oven, soda bread is best eaten on the day it is baked or toasted the following day.

- PRE-HEAT OVEN TO 200˚C/180˚C FAN/GAS 6
- Mix the two flours, bicarbonate of soda, bran, wheatgerm, oatmeal and salt together in a bowl.
- Beat the egg and buttermilk together in another bowl.
- Add the beaten egg and buttermilk to the dry ingredients and mix with a wooden spoon to a doughy mixture.
- Butter and flour a 2lb loaf tin and pour the mixture into it. Sprinkle the top with sesame seeds.
- Bake for 45 minutes. The bread is ready when the loaf sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
